How the alternatives differ
CodexBar and SessionWatcher are the closest fits if your center of gravity is a Mac menu bar and coding tools.
ClaudeUsageBar is narrower: a Claude and Claude Code menu-bar companion that publishes a local, open-source approach. AI Usage Bar is another native Mac option with provider breadth, spend, and alerts.
TokenBar is worth separating from allowance trackers. Its published description focuses on local coding-agent logs, tokens, and spend. That is valuable for cost awareness, but token spend is not automatically the same thing as a Claude.ai or ChatGPT subscription allowance.
Claude Tuner takes a browser-extension and dashboard approach across Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini. Its own support material says users sign in with Google and visit supported sites for automatic usage collection. The Claude Usage Tracker listing is another browser option, but token-based estimates should be treated as estimates rather than provider truth.
What to compare before installing
- Surface: browser widget, Mac menu bar, CLI, dashboard, or a mix.
- Authority: provider-exposed allowance, local log, token estimate, or self-reported dashboard.
- Privacy boundary: local storage, browser cookie access, API keys, account sign-in, or hosted analytics.
- Decision support: reset countdown, pace, alerts, spend, charts, team reporting, or only a percentage.
- Scope: consumer subscription limits, developer CLI usage, API billing, or all three.
General rule: token estimates, local logs, and provider-exposed allowances are different signals. Compare like with like.
